Field Surveyor Career: A field surveyor is a person whose duty is to conduct the field survey for different places or geographical conditions and collect necessary data and information as instructed by their senior officials of the organisation or the institution they are working for. The Field Surveyors share common positions at different Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), major excavation companies, municipal corporations of the Central and State Government, at various research institutions and educational institutions, public works department, urban and regional development authorities and many more within the country.   

Field surveyors are posted under the category of Group ‘C’ personnel at most of the organisations. 

 

Field Surveyors play a significant role in situations requiring the estimation of the real scenario at any place, drafting and implementation of policies by the government bodies. Some important skills which every field surveyor must possess are - understanding about working in the field, scaling, mapping, etc. Moreover, every field surveyor must be efficient enough to draft and enhance maps of any place or site. 

 

The Eligibility criteria to become a Field Surveyor: 

Any candidate to pursue the profession of Field Surveyor must have completed Class 10th from a recognised Board or University or equivalent. Plus, the candidates must have completed a 3 years diploma course in Civil Engineering or a 2 years ITI in Land Surveying from any institute recognised by the State Board of Technical Education. 

 

Age limit to become a Field surveyor: 

A candidate’s age must be within the range of 18 years to 27 years of age. While there is an age relaxation limit with the upper age limit up to 30 years or more if the candidate is being appointed on a contractual basis. Moreover, the reserved categories of SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD/ Ex-Serviceman candidates are also provided relaxation in the upper age limit as per the rules laid down by the Government.

 

Selection Process for Field Surveyor: 

To get selected for the post of FIeld surveyor, the candidates are tested based on their performance in the Academic Records, Written Exam and the Practical Skills possessed by the candidate. However, if the candidates are being selected on a contractual basis, they are tested on the basis of their Academic Records and the Personal Interview. 

 

Salary Composition of a Field Surveyor: 

Every Field Surveyor is paid as per the Pay Band 1 of INR 5,200/- to 20,400/- under the Sixth Pay Commission. However, wherever it is implemented, the salary as per the Pay Matrix Level-4 under the Seventh Pay Commission ranges from INR 25,500/- to 81,100/-. Other than this, the Field Surveyors are offered various allowances such as DA, HRA and many more.
