Assam Earthquake: 5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes The Morigaon District

Assam Earthquake:  An earthquake of 5.0 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Assam’s Morigaon district at 2:52 AM on Thursday. The news was confirmed by National Centre for Seismology entailing that no casualties or major damage have resulted from the quake. 

However, the tremors of the earthquake were felt in Guwahati along with Paradip, Puri, Berhampur, and other places in Odisha. 

The depth of the earthquake was 16km with its epicenter in the Bay of Bengal. Moderate earthquakes, such as those with 5.0 magnitude, are common in Assam as its geography is one of the most earthquake-prone areas in India. It falls under seismic zone V, which means that there is a high risk of strong tremors.
