Food Facts: Does Reheating Rice and Other Food Items Harmful For Your Health?

02 Nov, 2024

Food Facts: Recently, there has been a lot of concern about reheating rice and the potential health implications. Reheating incorrectly kept rice can be dangerous because rice left at room temperature can get infected with bacteria, resulting in food poisoning or other serious health consequences. To reduce nutrient loss and bacterial growth, rice should be handled and stored carefully, refrigerated immediately after cooking, and reheated only once at a moderate temperature. Excessive reheating of any food, particularly at high temperatures, can diminish its nutritional content and raise health concerns.

Is Reheating Food Harmful?

Furthermore, reusing cooking oil or using plastic bottles to store water have increased health concerns. Cooking oil gets more carcinogenic with each reheat, as indicated by the oil's deepening hue after frequent use, such as at street vendors. Similarly, long-term usage of plastic bottles can introduce microplastics into the water, perhaps causing metabolic difficulties owing to nanoplastics. As a result, reducing the use of reheated oil and switching to glass bottles instead of plastic can greatly improve health results.
