Lookback 2023: From 12th Fail to Bheed, These Films Deserved More From Its Audiences; Underdog Movies Of This Year

Underrated Movies 2023: 2023 witnessed some of the highest-grossing movies, with a bacchic frenzy for movies like Animal, Gadar 2, Pathan, and so on. Movies with big names, big budgets, and immense marketing gained love and box office collections whereas some of the refreshing, compelling stories went unheard, or could garner only a minuscule amount of attention than that they deserved. 12th Fail, Bheed, and Kathal are some of the bangers I’d like to bring to your attention for your next watch.

12th Fail 

The movie is a biographical drama based on the life of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who restarted his academic journey to compete in one of the toughest exams in the country, UPSC with lakhs of aspirants. 

The movie evidently displayed the prowess of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s direction and Vikrant Massey’s malleable acting skills did good justice to the tale of grit, resilience, and determination of the man aspiring to be like his inspiration.

Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery

Political satires is a tightrope, where pointing one fingers towards others means, directing the rest to oneself. Kathal: A Jackful Mystery helmed by Yashowardhan Mishra, features Sanya Malhotra as a young woman police officer with the daunting task of hunting down the stolen jackfruit of a local politician. 

Wrapped in layers of humor, absurdity, exaggeration, and irony it is a critic of political and sociological institutions that try to deviate from the law enforcers from battling the evils rooted in the society.

Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai 

Starring Manoj Bajpyaee in the titular role of Advocate P.C. Solanki fighting in a standalone fight to help deliver justice to a minor girl, who was physically violated by a con godman. 

It’s a delight for courtroom drama cinephiles, with a captivating screenplay, empathetic delivery, and stellar performance.

Zwigato 

Kapil Sharma as Manas, a food delivery man has gained much acclaim for his stimulating performance in the movie. It is a heartwarming watch telling the story of a strata of society widely overlooked. The persistence amid the world of ratings and tips, struggling to make ends meet, Manas and his wife Pratima played by Sahana Goswami. 

Bheed      

Numerous movies and shows have portrayed a take on the consequences and aftermath of the global pandemic in India. The story is about the largest migration of the Indian population since partition in the pandemic. It manages to capture the ghastliness and intricacies of the event, and how different people dealt with it differently.
