Underrated Romance Film:  The chill of November is slowly setting in with the weeks getting lazier, and days and nights colder. Good food and warm romances fuel the soul in this weather. Thankfully, Bollywood has many understated gems to keep you cosy this November. Here are some low-key romance films from Bollywood that are worth watching. 

Love Per Square Foot 

The now heartthrob Vicky Kaushal is an innocent chocolate boy Sanjay in the film opposite Angira Dhar essaying Karina. The film captures the crisis, ambitions, and struggles of young middle-class folks in urban cities like Mumbai, where the cost of living, the cycle of 9-5, and the responsibilities of youth cloud simple dreams. 

In gist, the film follows two young people driven by a similar dream of owning their own house. The odd events lead them to fall in love, but a twist of misunderstanding causes everything to crumble. Will they be able to build a snug nest to call home?

Starring Sanya Malhotra, and Nawaazudin Siddiqui, the film nuanced captures the essence of emotions that are to be felt alone, and not marred by words. Exploring differences of culture, and class, ‘Photograph’ centers on Rafi, a street photographer in Mumbai, and Miloni, a young girl he photographs at the Gateway of India. 

The familial expectations of Rafi pull the two into a pretense engagement where the two develop a bond by closely witnessing each other. A slow-paced film, ‘Photograph’ is almost a poem on camera.

Is Love Enough? Sir

Spoiler, it is not a happy ending in the conventional Bollywood way. Ashwin and Ratna come from two different worlds that can never meet in the eyes of society. Ambitious at heart, both of them chose to follow their dreams over love because the differences in class, status, and societal barriers are just too wide to be bridged alone.

Bareilly Ki Barfi 

With a stellar cast of Ayushmaan Khurana, Kriti Sanon, and Rajkummar Rao, ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ is a wholesome watch with comedy, and romance with a nuanced depiction of the state and its culture. The film touches on societal gender barriers, burnout ambitions, and a quest for love one thinks they do not deserve.

Qarib Qarib Single 

Bollywood does not make movies like this every day. The larger-than-life notion of love takes a back seat in Irfaan Khan and Parvathy starrer with a more mature and realistic depiction of romance. The fresh take on Bollywood romance also made an indelible mark on the audiences’ quest for life-like romantic movies.
