Gehraiyaan Movie Review: The Shakun Batra film Gehraiyaan has been released on Amazon Prime Video and twitter has already flooded with love for the direction of Shakun and Deepika Padukone’s stunning performance. Human emotions can be intensely complex and Shakun’s film successfully conveyed that. 

Gehraiyaan Movie Plot

The narrative of Gehraiyaan revolves around Alisha, a young yoga therapist who is struggling to launch her Yoga Business. She is stuck in a monotonous life and a stagnant relationship where life is not taking her anywhere. Alisha is haunted by her past life too and holds bitter relations with her father which is played by Naseeruddin Shah. Her life becomes a rollercoaster when she reunites with her cousin Tia (Ananya Pandey) and her fiance Zain (Siddhant Chaturvedi). 

Gehraiyaan Movie Portrayal

Film Gehraiyaan is definitely not a romantic getaway for your weekend night, instead it is a subtle detailed portrayal of human emotions, desires. Through the characters of Alisha and Zain, Shakun successfully portrays the millennials who are somewhere stuck between their high ambitions, emotional desires and lust. Set with a melancholic mood but romantic visuals, film deals with the issue of infidelity and psychological issues too, but the filming of the scenes is so sublime that you will feel your breath going up and heart beating fast without any heavy ‘dialogues’.

Gehraiyaan Movie Cinematography

The treatment of the film is musical and cinematographer Kaushal Shah has done a great job. The camera movements are genuinely good, and that is how the audience is connecting better with the characters. The car scenes have been shot with much care, especially the scene where Rajat Kapoor and Siddhant Chaturvedi are in a conversation inside a car during the rain, the scene shows the clever framing of camera. 

Gehraiyaan Movie Music and Background Score

With the right notes of pop music influences and ambient sounds, Savera Mehta and Kabeer Kathpalia have only added on to the audience experience. The title track ‘Gehraiyaan’ and ‘Doobey’ are one of the best Bollywood songs of recent times. The dichotomy of passionate groovy music with meaningful lyrics creates another world for cinema lovers.

Gehraiyaan Film Actor’s Performance

The major cast of the film which included Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Dhaiya Karwa and Ananya Pandey took part in a special workshop under the intimacy diretor Dar Gai. The director Shakun Batra was also a part of these workshops, and definitely that work paid off. The actors don't look artificial or odd during the intimacy scenes. In fact the moments of ‘cold embraces and kisses’ look so real. The cast of the film delivered what it was supposed to. The netizens are calling it the ‘Best Performance’ of Deepika Padukone. Siddhant lived the character of Zain, Ananya fit the character of Tia well, however there was not much character swift or twist for her. Dhairya Karwa’s character Karan was supporting to the lead character, however Dhairya very well portrayed a struggling author with his own insecurities and frustrations of life.

Gehraiyaan Film Audience Reactions

The film is getting mixed reactions from the audience. However the number of people loving it is seemingly greater than the ones who did not connect with it.
