IndiGo Flights Update: Fined with Rs. 1.5 crore over a passenger eating on the Tarmac

IndiGo Flight Fine:  IndiGo has been fined a fine of 1.5 crores for violation of safety norms as the passengers of the flight were caught eating on the tarmac. The incident took place because of the delay of flights due to the foggy weather. 

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security have together imposed a fine of Rs. 1.5 crores and Rs. 90 Lakhs on the IndiGo airline and the Mumbai Airport respectively.  

Delays in flights triggered the incident 

The weather conditions in north India have been thick with fog, impacting air and rail transportation. Several flights from and to Delhi have been diverted and delayed because of the same. The passenger was frustrated with the persistent delay and took to the airplane apron of IndiGo’s flight 6E 2195 from Goa to Delhi, to have a meal. The incident violated the safety norms resulting in the imposition of fines on the airline and airport.  

The BCAS fined the airline for lapses in security screening and failure to report the incident promptly.
