JK Tire is celebrating its four decades of motorsport in India with a new 300,000 Euro scholarship program for budding talent. In the last two years, the pandemic has not dampened the spirit of the brand and they have successfully organized the Racing Championship along with their annual events. The team also announced its plans for the year 2022 on Wednesday.
The event will select up to five young athletes, including a girl, and give them the opportunity to compete in motorsport races and represent the country at an international level. The new scholarship program fits in with the company's philosophy of developing and nurturing young talent in motorsport.
According to the company, more than 90 percent of Indian kids running abroad are from JK Tire's program. The first recipient of this new program has already been announced, 17-year-old Amir Syed from Kottayam. All 12 races of the JK Tire Novice Cup champions in 2020 were won by him.
Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Head of Motorsports, JK Tire commented, “JK Tire has always been at the forefront of promoting motorsports in India.” By building tracks and infrastructure across the country, the company has contributed significantly to the upliftment of the culture of motorsports in India and abroad.
Experts in the field appreciate India's growing pool of rookie drivers. Mr. Sanjay Sharma said, “The good thing is that the age group for Indian drivers has come down from 17-18 to 14. India will have around 30 recognizably talented drivers in the 14 year age group, which is a huge number.”
