JN.1 Covid Variant: Know Common Symptoms and Effective Measures To Stay Protected

06 Jan, 2024

Covid Cases in India: The most recent mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the primitive cause of COVID-19, is the JN.1 variant. It is a COVID variant subvariant of Omicron. JN.1 has altered its genetic code, particularly in the spike protein region, just like other variations. In September, this variant was discovered for the first time in the US. The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated this variant as a Variant of Interest (VOI) due to its potential influence on the trajectory of the pandemic in India and numerous other countries, where cases have seen a rapid increase in just few days.

JN.1 Symptoms

A variety of symptoms, varying in intensity, may be experienced by individuals infected with the JN.1 variant. Fever, coughing, exhaustion, headaches, sore throats, loose motions, and breathing difficulties are typical symptoms. It’s crucial to remember that JN.1 symptoms can cross over with those of other COVID-19 variations. Spreading more quickly than Omicron, JN.1 can elude the immune system and infect both vaccinated people and those who have already recovered from COVID. It is comparable to omicron, though, as a subvariant of the latter has similar mild symptoms and high transmissibility.
