Manmohan Singh Death: The former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away at 92 due to age-related health complications on Thursday. The statesman was brought to the ICU of AIIMS in Delhi.
A statement released by the hospital states, “With profound grief, we inform the demise of the former Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had a sudden loss of consciousness at home on 26 December 2024. Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency at AIIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 PM. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM.”
He is survived by his 87-year-old wife, Gursharan Kaur, and three daughters, Upinder Singh, Daman Singh, and Amrit Singh.

Dr. Singh was among the longest-serving PM of the country, and the first Sikh to hold the position. Born on 26 September 1932 to Gurmukh Singh and Amrit Kaur, he married his partner for life Gursharan Kaur in 1958.
87-year-old Gursharan Kaur is a scholar. She has been a history professor and an author and now lives a retired life with her husband. The two have three daughters together, who are carrying forward the legacy of their parents with their wits, and contribution to the arts and law field of the nation and world.

Upinder Singh is Dr. Singh's eldest daughter. According to Wikipedia, she is a history professor and the Dean of Faculty at Ashoka University. She has also taught at St. Stephen’s College of Delhi University and the History Department of the University of Delhi.
She completed her graduation in History from St. Stephen’s College and pursued her Master's in Arts and Postgraduation in MPhil from the University of Delhi followed by a PhD from McGill University.
A published author, Upinder Singh has several books to her credit like ‘Ancient Delhi’ and ‘Rethinking Early Medieval India.’
Daman Singh is the second daughter of Dr. Singh and Mrs. Kaur, an alma mater at St. Stephen’s College as well. Born on 4 September 1963 she is married to IPS Ashok Pattnaik of the 1983 batch. The two have a son called Rohan.
She is known to publish the memoir of his parents Manmohan Singh and Gursharan Kaur titled ‘Strictly Personal: Manmohan and Gursharan.’ As an author, she has written several books including ‘Last Frontier: People And Forests In Mizoram’, ‘The Sacred Grove’, and ‘Nine by Nine’.
The youngest daughter of Dr. Singh is a human rights lawyer and a professor at the Stanford Law School. She has also taught at the Yale Law School and New York University School of Law previously. She served as director of the Accountability Division at the Open Society Justice Initiative.
Singh remains one of the most dignified statesmen in the country, who pulled back India from the claws of poverty. His economic reform gave the country its strong base in the World market, which also earned him global recognition. As the great leader rests in peace, his legacy is illustrious and beheld by his daughters and wife.
