Microsoft introduced Microsoft 365 Copilot, which integrates artificial intelligence into applications such as Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel. The AI assistant blends natural language processing, which is based on OpenAI's ChatGPT technology, with Microsoft Office tools and capabilities to assist workers in automating or accelerating some of their more monotonous tasks.
Copilot has already made its debut with 20 enterprise customers. Microsoft stated that it will be offered to its bigger user base in the coming months. "We believe this next generation of AI will unlock a new wave of productivity," stated Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during a livestreamed event. The move comes on the heels of the company's launch of a new version of its search engine Bing, which includes the conversational AI tool ChatGPT. It also comes only days after Google announced the inclusion of AI in its workplace software, Google Workspace.
Microsoft recognised in its Copilot demo that its AI might get things wrong or leave out critical details from time to time, highlighting that workers can opt to inspect, alter, or even dismiss results produced by the programme. It also includes some citations that show which of your files or discussions it used for its responses, as well as some prompts that you might want to use to continue working with Copilot.
