Gel paints, acrylic nail extensions, and press-ons have seen a surge in investment as an emerging beauty business field, and nail art has become more than a fashion statement today. Nail extensions have been linked to causing allergic reactions for some, while others have complained of a weakened nail bed with frequent visits to the nail salon, and these are just to name a few.

Nail Damage: Over time, regular application of fake nails can damage the natural nail by weakening its nail bed, making it brittle and more prone to breakage. 

UV Lamp Risks: The UV-lights used in drying the gel and acrylic nails contain UVA rays, the same emitted from the sun. Excess exposure to UVA rays can lead to cell death of the hands and lead to photoaging. 

Infections: The gap between natural nails and the acrylic bed is the breeding ground of fungus and bacteria due to the moisture trapped between them. It can lead to nail fungus and other bacterial infections if left unchecked for a long time. 

Irritant Reactions: The artificial chemical used in making the nail extensions, its adhesive used to stick the nails, and the colorful nail polishes can cause allergic reactions like itching, redness, and swelling.
