Holi 2025: One just cannot skip colors on Holi. Be it organic or homemade, Holi colors find their way onto the scalp and skin, and then the woes of not protecting them beforehand troubles. But you can avoid these troubles by simply following pre-holi hair and skin care tips to keep your tresses and skin hydrated, resplendent, and in good health.
From face to arms and ankles, Holi colors penetrate to each nook and corner of the skin, hence, it is essential to ensure you do a good prep of your skin the night before Holi.
Hydrate: Skincare begins from within first. Ensure you take in ample water from a day before Holi to have hydrated skin the following days as well, which will keep it well-moisturized to handle the stubborn holi colors.
Moisturise: Apply thick layers of long-lasting moisturiser all over your face and body, with a special focus on the exposed areas like the neck, hands, and feet. Do not forget your ankle.
SPF: Sunscreen is non-negotiable, no matter the occasion. Apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 and more. A good amount of sun protecting lotion should be applied all over the body as well.
Your crown sits high on your body, hence making your hair the first recipient of all things good and bad. So naturally, the Holi color will first meet your tresses. So it is important to do good prep for your hair before Holi as well.
Drink plenty of water: Keeping your scalp hydrated will keep your scalp ready to manage the Holi colors and also make the removal process easy. Hence, drink plenty of water before and during holi.
Oil your scalp: A Dry scalp can easily be affected by color. Water on a dry scalp can make it vulnerable as well with open hair cuticles. Hence, oiling your hair before Holi will ensure that the color does not sit deep into the scalp and gets washed out easily.
No shampooing or hair treatments: Do not go for any heavy hair treatments before Holi, as your scalp is in a delicate condition and may get irritated with holi colors. Avoid shampooing a day or a few days before holi to keep your scalp’s natural oil intact.
Nails are an integral part of the body that are often overlooked. But in contemporary times, they are ornamented with extensions, acrylics, and nail paints. Keeping them well-treated is essential during Holi too.
Apply a layer of nail polish: A simple way to protect your nail enamel from colors is to apply a good layer of nail polish on and under your nails (if you have long ones) before playing holi.
Apply petroleum jelly: Before you dip your hands in color, make sure you dip your claws in petroleum jelly to avoid the colors from getting to your cuticles.
Moisturise/oiling: Keep your hands moisturised with a thick moisturiser or coconut or almond oil.
Using organic colors for holi will limit the damage it may cause to your skin, hair, and nails.
