Navratri 2025: Navratri is the celebration of the divine Navdurga. The nine days of fasting include seeking blessings from nine forms or avatars of the goddess Durga. With its profound spiritual significance, Navratri also marks the start of the Hindu New Year for many parts of India.
This year, the Chaitra Navratri will begin on 30 March and conclude on 7 April. The festival also celebrates Ma Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasur, the symbolic victory of good over evil.
Each day dedicated to nine different avatars of the Goddess is also a representation of her different qualities from strength, and courage to grace and femininity. The nine days hence have nine different colors representing their individual significance. Let’s learn about each of the colors, their representative form of Goddess, and its significance.
Yellow on Day 1
The first day of Navratri is dedicated to the goddess Shailputri. The color for the day is yellow representing positivity, brightness, and happiness.
Green on Day 2
Goddess Brahamacharini is worshiped on the second day. This day green color is considered auspicious representing nature, fertility, and prosperity.
Grey on Day 3
On the third day, the goddess Chandraghanta is worshipped. The color for the day is grey for the stability, balance and neutrality it represents.
Orange on Day 4
Goddess Kushmanda is at the center of prayers on the fourth day of the Navratri. She is represented with an orange color symbolic of passion and vibrancy.
White on Day 5
For the fifth day, devotees must wear white to pray to Goddess Skandmata. The ivory color represents purity and serenity.
Red on Day 6
Goddess Katyani is worshipped on the sixth day of Navratri. Red is used to symbolize her power, courage, passion, and bravery.
Blue on Day 7
On the seventh day, devotees pray to goddess Mahagauri known for her calm demeanour. Blue is the color for this day representing her wisdom and knowledge.
Pink on Day 8
The color of love, compassion and femininity, pink is the auspicious color on the eighth day. The day is dedicated to the goddess Siddhidatri.
Purple on Day 9
The final day of the Navratri is to worship Goddess Durga. The auspicious color for the final day is purple known to represent spirituality and creativity.
