Coronavirus update: New Omicron variant XBB 1.16 found in majority of Delhi patients; mandatory to wear masks

09 Apr, 2023

The capital has seen an increase in corona cases during the past few days. As a result, the first week of April saw the arrival of more than 3,000 corona cases. The novel Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 infection is the cause of this. According to research, almost 98 percent of Corona-infected individuals in Delhi are now infected with this sub-variant of Omicron.

Use of masks is mandatory

The new variant is said to be spreading two to three times as quickly. Masks need to be worn once again in order to stop corona. Particularly when traveling by rail, subway, bus, and in marketplaces, people should wear masks. Adults over 65, and those with chronic illnesses including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, renal disease, hypertension, etc., may be more susceptible to infection. They must therefore use greater caution at this time. A lower chance of a severe illness exists in those who received the two-dosage vaccine as well as the precautionary dose. Those who haven’t taken a vigilance dose yet should do so for this reason.

Corona Cases in Delhi

In Delhi, there were 3507 corona cases in a single week. 1653 patients have been cured over this time, while 8 patients have passed away. The health administration has instructed hospitals and pharmacies to test more people who exhibit illness symptoms in light of this. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of Loknayak Hospital, stated that the corona test has begun for patients who are having fever, cough, and breathing issues.
