New Volkswagen Virtus - First Drive Review and Specifications

Volkswagen has announced that the Virtus sedan will go on sale in India on June 9. It'll be a replacement for the Vento sedan, and is the second VW vehicle after the Taigun to be based on the carmaker’s MQB A0 IN platform. The Volkswagen Virtus will be offered in three variants including 1.0 MT, 1.0 AT, and 1.5 DSG. Let’s take a look at its specifications

Volkswagen Virtus Exterior

The Volkswagen Virtus is comparatively  larger than the latter. It measures 4561 mm in length, and 1752 mm in width, while the wheelbase stands at 2651 mm. The boot capacity is 521 litres. It is also the longest and widest car in the class. The model sports a wide grille with a chrome outline that merges into the LED headlamps that are standard on the Virtus.

The front bumper gets a central air intake with vertically-stacked fog lamps and chrome inserts. The rear sports wraparound LED taillights with a signature pattern and chrome inserts on the bumper as well. The Virtus gets 16-inch alloy wheels as standard. The standard one is finished in chrome, while the Performance line gets the black-finished alloys for a sporty look. The cabin too retains a modern and contemporary theme. The Virtus will be offered in six colours when it goes on sale.

Volkswagen Virtus Interior

The interior Cabin includes many features such as the digital instrument console, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, My Volkswagen Connect an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, ventilated front leather seats, cruise control, and wireless charging. 

The cabin also comes with 60:40 split rear seats, cooled glovebox, and more. VW also revealed that the LED headlamps, alloy wheels and touchscreen infotainment system are standard on the Virtus.

Volkswagen Virtus Engine

The Engine power is generated from the 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine that develops 113 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque, while paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter. The GT Line will draw power from the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine that develops 148 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. 

This engine will get a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG transmission choice. The 1.5-litre TSI EVO will also come with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) that de-activates two cylinders in the interest of fuel efficiency and emissions. More details on the fuel efficiency figures and prices will be available closer to the launch.

Volkswagen Virtus Price

The Volkswagen Virtus is expected to be priced between Rs 9-12 lakh (ex-showroom).
