Parliament Monsoon Session 2022: Suspended MPs continue to sit in Parliament for 50 hours

Opposition MPs suspended from Rajya Sabha have started a 50-hour protest against the government. All the MPs are giving their dharna in front of the Gandhi statue built inside the Parliament complex. They have been allowed to hold this long dharna and the MPs are staging dharna in shifts. This demonstration, which started at 11 am on Wednesday, will continue till 1 pm on Friday.

Reason for protest

According to information received from the sources, the opposition has rejected the proposal of the Speaker to express regret over the behaviour of its members in the House to revoke the suspension. At the same time, a total of 24 members of the suspended Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are protesting near the Gandhi statue inside the Parliament House.

This protest of Rajya Sabha Parliaments will continue for 50 hours. According to information received from sources, it has been learned that Nationalist Congress Party and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha are also joining the protests. At present, no MP or member of these two parties has been suspended.

Parties protesting

The parties that participated in the protest include Trinamool Congress, DMK, AAP, TRS, Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena, CPI(M), CPI, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Kerala Congress. Sources said the parties have decided that they will try to make arrangements for regional cuisine for the MPs. He said that on Wednesday, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva arranged for breakfast of idli-sambar for the MPs. At the same time, DMK arranged rice-curd for lunch, while Trinamool Congress arranged roti, dal, paneer and chicken tandoori for dinner.
