Pride 2024: Susan Dias, A Pioneer in LGBTQAI+ Legal Marriage Rights in India Shares Her Journey

Pride Month:  Susan Dias, the director of Native Brews Private Limited (NBPL), and one of the first Indians to petition the Supreme Court for the legal rights of the LGBTQAI+ community to marry in the country. Despite her loss in the court, her pioneering efforts for the rights of the community have been shaping the movement and revolution in the country today. In a candid stand-up, she shares her life journey. 

“I regret waiting 20 years to come out”- Dias 

Susan comes from a South Indian family, where coming out was a daunting task for her even though she believes she always knew she was gay. To her surprise, however, her parents and friends were extremely supportive of her. Her strength to fight for the legal marriage rights of the LGBTQ+ community is inherent and from her people and her partner Aditi Anand who joined her in her petition. The two also adopted a son and continue to fight for the rights of the community in India.
