03 Nov, 2023

Cyber Security Prcatices: In this informative series on Cybersecurity, Rakshit Tondon talks about some of the imperative and best practices to protect sensitive information and data in devices.

Cyber Hygiene

Cyber Hygiene refers to the set of basic practices one can implement to keep their phones, laptops, iPads, and other devices safe from online attacks and thefts. It is an easy and effective way to keep sensitive data out of the reach of hackers and thieves.

Golden Rule of Cyber Hygiene

One rule to swear by is to keep our digital IDs safe. Never click on unknown links, or permit unknown links and apps permission to have access to the data on your devices.

Methods to Maintain Cyber Hygiene

  1. Two-Step Verification: to secure your devices from hacking and leaking of information, ensure to apply two-step verification or multifactor authorization on all your devices. This adds a firm layer of security to your data.

  2. Keep your OS updated: The OS (operating system) of the devices is the white blood cells of the system. Always keep it updated so that no Trojans or malware can sneak in.

  3. Do not click on unknown links or install unknown/bootleg apps.

Building awareness regarding the various cyber threats, and methods of cybersecurity can go a long way in staying safe digitally. As Rakshit Tandon also concluded, “If you update, you are safe.” Staying updated with various means of cyber security and cyber hygiene practices can help us create a safe cyberspace.
