In 1979, Autry started his first oil mine in Midland country, and slowly achieved growth and started Endeavour Energy Resources. 

Diamondback Energy Acquires Autry Stephens' Company

Diamondback Energy has agreed to acquire Stephens' Endeavour Energy Resources for USD26 billion ($39.8 billion) in cash and stock. After this acquisition, Autry will be included in the list of the richest people in the world. In an interview given to Bloomberg, Autry said the reason for selling his company as he is suffering from cancer.
