New Covid Variant India: Amid the rapid spread of Covid-19 variant JN.1 globally, more than 4,000 active COVID cases have been detected in India till now. The first case of the JN.1 variant in the country was discovered on December 8 in Kerala. Compared to the earlier strains, Covid JN.1, a sub-variant of the Omicron lineage, is more transmissible. Although it does not cause a more severe disease than the other Omicron variants, experts say it spreads rapidly. The World Health Organisation (WHO) is categorizing JN.1 as a different variant of interest (VOI) from the parent lineage BA.2.86 due to its rapidly increasing nature.
Common symptoms of the JN.1 variant include fever, exhaustion, and body aches. Additionally, it has mild gastrointestinal symptoms, such as loose stools or mild stomach cramps. Wash your hands with soap and water on a regular basis to maintain good hand hygiene and stay safe during COVID-19. Keep a physical distance from others, wear masks in crowded areas, and follow health regulations. Refrain from touching your face, particularly your mouth, nose, and eyes. If you are feeling unwell, stay at home and take necessary medications and consult your doctor.
