S Jaishankar in UNGA: External Affairs Minister of India reprimanded China-Pakistan on the matter of terrorism

25 Sep, 2022

S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs for India, has reprimanded China and Pakistan over the UN's handling of the terrorism issue. According to S. Jaishankar, nations that support individuals who have been labelled terrorists by the UN are not thinking about their own interests or their reputation. No terrorist act can ever be justified. India requests that the important subject of Security Council reform be thoroughly examined, the External Affairs Minister stressed.

Speaking at a high-level UN General Assembly meeting, the foreign minister said those who politicise the UNSC-1267 sanctions regime, sometimes to the extent of assisting recognised terrorists, do so at their own peril (UNGA).

Important points mentioned by S Jaishankar

  • India seeks a thorough discussion on the critical issue of Security Council reform. Procedural gimmicks shouldn't stall the UNSC's debates on urgently required reforms, and members who don't agree with them can't keep the process from moving forward indefinitely.
  • Jaishankar responded, "Our response is always straight and honest," when he was asked which side we were on in the Ukraine dispute. He was making reference to the situation in Ukraine and Russia. India favours global peace. We agree that the only means of resolving conflicts are via dialogue and diplomacy.
  • There are a lot more issues with Corona. India is making every effort to help its neighbours. Whether it be to send food to Afghanistan or financial aid to Sri Lanka.
  • India must advance during the next 25 years. In honour of the nation's 75th anniversary of independence, PM Modi signed five resolutions. Independence of India from colonialism.
