There are a few shows that have kept the viewers hooked to their seats, and Taali has done exactly the same. The series will definitely change your perspective about Transgenders and will take you on their journey of struggles and their never-ending fighting spirit.

Taali Series Review

The web series Taali is a biopic of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant, often known as Gauri Sawant. The show stars Sushmita Sen as Gauri, and it is currently being streamed on JioCinema. The series narrates the story of Gauri’s upbringing, the conflict in her relationship with her father, the early death of her mother, her transition process, and her desire to become a mother, along with her struggle for transgenders’ legal rights. She wants to be accepted as a citizen of the nation and get the respect she and other transgenders do not get. There is a scene where Sushmita talks about her fight for “identity, survival, and equality,” while sitting in a lawyer’s cabin.

The first episode of the series opens with Ganesh sitting in a classroom while a teacher instructs the students about a career aptitude exam. Ganesh responds that he wants to be a mother when asked what he wants to be when he grows up, which causes a wave of awkward hesitation in the teacher, followed by the entire class laughing at him. He dresses as a lady in front of the mirror and performs lavani at a function, but his father firmly rejects his way of living life and orders him to never dance like a woman again. However, with his mother’s sudden passing, everything changes. We also see Ganesh undergo sex reassignment surgery, change his name to Gauri, and begin advocating for transgender rights. She eventually files a petition in the Supreme Court of India asking for the recognition of third-gender people as citizens and demanding granting them a legal right that would allow their inclusion on all official documents in India.

Taali on OTT

Taali, a six-episode series produced by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar and helmed by Ravi Jadhav, totally centers on the role played by Sushmita Sen with the expected grace and brilliance. The program is heartfelt, emotional, and realistic. The plot is stirring with excellent performances. The show takes a good leap because of the indulgence of some prominent transgender characters. Watch Sushmita Sen briefly taking you towards the untold journey of Gauri Sawant in “Taali” on JIoCinema.
