Top 5 K-pop songs you have mistaken for English; From Cupid to Gangnam Style, check the trendsetters

The K-pop industry, which has garnered global attention in recent times, appears to still face challenges with its rookie groups. It's noteworthy that major labels and renowned K-pop groups like BTS, Blackpink, TXT, EXO, Twice, and Stray Kids are dominating the spotlight. Consequently, those who are new to K-pop primarily recognize the industry through these prominent names, potentially impacting the prospects of rookie groups. However, we're not here to make comparisons.

At times, when songs by these rookie groups go viral, people mistakenly assume they are in English or another language, following the trend without acknowledging the group or giving proper credit. This situation adversely affects these groups in some way. Today, we aim to highlight some of the underrated yet highly popular songs that audiences misunderstood as English tracks.

Cupid by Fifty-Fifty

Let’s start with the most trending on social media and Instagram right now, the song ‘Cupid’. Struck a chord? If not, let us remind you of some lines.

Stop glancing and tell me, hold me (Hold me)

Again crying in my room

I wanna hide it (Say what you say, but I want it more)

But still I want it more, more, more”

Well, this song which many of us mistook for English actually belongs to an all girl K-pop group Fifty-Fifty. Having their debut in November 2022, the global popularity of their song ‘Cupid’ was a breakthrough of their career, and yet the group never got their proper credit. The fact that led the group to sue their own label for some copyright infringement.

Colors by Stella Jung

Colors is yet another popular K-pop group by K-pop artist Stella Jung. The song also became one of the all time hit tik tok and reel trends. The song still is used frequently by the digital content creators.

Even after the Korean version of Shaun's "Way Back Home" was released, it continued to be mistaken as an English song that had been adapted into Korean. This track served as the lead single for his debut solo extended play titled "Take," which was released on June 27, 2018. Interestingly, there are several edited versions of the song that may lead you to believe it is actually in English, although it is not.

I’ll never leave your side

You will never be alone

Even when we go through changes

Even when we were old

Remember that I told you

I’ll find my way back home”
