Tabu has had a topsy-turvy journey in the world of lights, cameras, and action! One thing about her is she took all challenges head-on, working with resilience, and has made herself a “big name”.

Mapping Tabu’s Diverse Filmography

Most recently, Tabu was seen as Geeta in Rajesh Krishnan’s Crew, the movie has etched itself in history as the ‘Biggest Female Led opener in the History of Hindi Cinema Worldwide’ with Rs. 20.07 and counting wordwise gross revenue. The women-led heist comedy stands out for not attempting to turn women into the flagbearers of moralities or ethics but real, flawed, and desiring humans.

Tabu’s temperament as Geeta has been loved and resonated with, for her unabashed self, and audacious attitude which is not just a new avatar the audience got to witness her as but also something that was much needed in Bollywood. An adult woman with maturity and age co-existing with her true self of boldness.

Haider to Crew and everything in between

Tracing Tabu’s trajectory in the last decade corroborates the evidence of her versatility as an actor and the quick dynamics she develops with her characters and co-team is commendable and awe-inspiring.

In Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Haider’ Tabu carries a mysterious sensuality in her character of Ghazala. Her character is read as black or morally grey for a widow who refuses to mourn her husband’s demise and rather finds consorts in his brother in law.

In movies including Andhadhun, Drihsaym, Khufiya, and Bhool Bhulaiya 2 she has been essaying characters on the edge of darkness held in the light with her genuine awareness of evil in them.

In Raghvan’s noir, Simi is ambitious, and steel-built, able to change colours and speech effortlessly under dire circumstances. She has taken roles as protector of laws in ‘ Drishyam’  and ‘ Khufiya’ with a dreadful yet captivating gaze that pulls you in and hallucinates with pain, empathy and detachment. Observing her character in the last decade also brings a constant theme of ambition in women coming from different walks of life and strata of society.

To read Bhool Bhulaiya as the final nail in her frame of versatility displays her dynamism when she plays Manjulika and her anti-thesis Anjulika in the same frame astonishing the audience yet again with her scintillating acting prowess.

Tabu has defied the norms of finding success in Bollywood after the 30s, opting for flawed women characters who come from a spectrum of age, class, and ambition and she continues to do so with her newest release.
