UPSC Topper Success Story: IAS Anupama Singh cracked her UPSC exam in the first attempt, know her story

UPSC Topper Success story:

Where most of the women after getting married get busy balancing between household and job. Anupama secured 90th rank in the UPSC Civil Services 2019 examination.

Anupama hails from Patna:

Anupama, a resident of Kankarbhang, Patna, has completed her early education from Patna itself. She has completed her class 10 from Mount Carmel High School in 2002 and did MBBS from Patna Medical College in 2011 and Master of Surgery (MS) from Banaras Hindu University in 2014.

Anupama stayed away from her 3-year-old son to prepare for UPSC:

Anupama aged 32, got married in 2013 to Ravindra Kumar who is a doctor by profession. Recalling her UPSC  preparation time, Anupama said, “My son Anay was 3 years old when I decided to go to Delhi for preparation. The most difficult phase of this journey was the decision to stay away from my son. After Anupama came to Delhi, her husband took care of her son. She attributes her success to the support of her family.

Anupama cracked UPSC Civil Services Exam in her first attempt:

After moving to Delhi in 2018, Anupama enrolled in a private coaching institute. Recalling that time, Anupama says, “When I was living alone in Karol Bagh, I devoted all my time to studies. After coaching, I used to read books, newspapers, magazines and prepare notes. I used to chat with my son over video calls. I missed a phase of his childhood and his first activities. But instead of thinking about returning half-prepared, I used to think that I should focus on achieving my goal to be back home soon. Maybe this was the reason why I cleared the exam in the first attempt."

Anupama aims to improve the government medical system through UPSC:

Talking about her inclination towards civil services, Anupama says “After practicing at Jhalkari Hospital for two years, I realized that there is a need for change in the healthcare system. As a doctor, I was treating patients but it was not in my hands to rectify the poor medical system. I wanted to make government medical facilities better and stronger for the public and this thought inspired me to pursue UPSC civil services. "
