Re-release Films Opening records:  Recent months have witnessed the re-release of some of cult movies in cinemas. From Tumbbad to Veer Zara, horror to comedy fans were quick to book their tickets making some staggering numbers for the films and setting groundbreaking records for re-release. Let’s take a look at the re-releasing records of the film across India. 

Veer-Zara 

Yash Raj Chopra’s Veer-Zara starring Preity Zinta and Shahrukh is a cult romance. The film was re-released in cinemas on 13 September. Even after 20 years of its initial release, the film sold 3250 tickets on the first day. As of 20 September, the film has crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark worldwide. Reports suggested that the film’s re-released minted Rs. 20 lakhs on the day of release. 

Veer Zara has not been in the headlines for its re-release for the first time. In 2004, the film was re-released in November and became the highest-grossing Indian film of the year 2004 with a collection of Rs. 98 crore globally. This year the film has finally entered the 100 crore club.

Gabbar Singh

The Telugu film starring Pawan Kalyan was re-released on the occasion of his birthday on 2 September. The film became the biggest opening for a re-released Indian movie at the worldwide box office with 6.25 crores in India as per Sacnilk. 

The movie also became the biggest re-release domestic opener leaving behind Mahesh Babu’s Murari and Thalapathy Vijay’s Ghilli grossing around Rs.4.75 crores.  

Tumbbad

Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad was initially released in 2018. The film was among the re-releases on 13 September making a total of Rs. 1.60 crores net on the day 1 of its release. And only within seven days of its release, it surpassed the collection of original runs in 2018. Tumbbad re-release as of today has earned Rs. 1.25 crores net approx. as per Sacnilk.    

The trend of re-releasing films has been fruitful for multiplexes and the audience as they get to experience their nostalgic films yet again on the big screen.
