MP Water Crisis: In Maharkhuwa, a remote village in the Bundelkhand region of Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, a community of people is forced to live on contaminated water due to the acute water crisis in the region. The community relies on a distant and small water source ‘jhiriya’ in the thick of a forest. To fetch water from the ‘jhiriya’ they risk their life in the wilderness amidst wild animals.
The impact of the water crisis is evident on the health and well-being of the community. However, it also seeps into their social life where 60% of the youth remains unmarried and many are forced to migrate to distant places owing to the lack of access to a basic necessity such as clean water.
