Weather Update: IMD issues yellow alert for Delhi, Mumbai, Himachal; Heavy Rain Expected In Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh

Weather Today:  The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in major cities of the State with expected light to moderate and heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Himachal, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh. Yellow alert in Delhi 

The weather in Delhi is expected to remain warm, with temperatures ranging from 29 degrees Celsius to 37 degrees Celsius through the week. The weather department has issued a yellow alert in the national capital predicting generally cloudy skies and light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms likely on 18 and 19 July. 

Delhi has been experiencing sultry weather for the past few days, and with expected precipitation the residents may find a much-needed relief from the hot and humid weather for a brief time. 

Yellow Alert In Mumbai 

The financial capital has been under lashing rain resulting in water logging and congested traffic in several parts of the city. The Regional Meteorological Department in Mumbai has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain till 19 July. IMD on the other hand has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Thane, and Phalgar.  

Heavy Rainfall in Southern India 

With the Indian monsoon shifting downwards, schools and colleges have been shut down in multiple districts of Kerala. Severe rainfall is likely in Kerala’s Wayanad which is on red alert with shut educational institutes. Moreover, the weather department has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod with an orange alert in place. A yellow alert has been issued for the Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts of Kerala.  

In Andhra Pradesh heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted to commence from 18 July. 

Additionally, intense wet spells are forecasted north coastal Andhra Pradesh, south Rayalaseema, north Tamil Nadu, Goa, and coastal Karnataka, Tripura, south and south Odisha.  

Rain Forecast in Rest of India

Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in Northeastern states including  West Bengal, Sikkim, Mizoram, Meghalaya, west Assam, Tripura, east Arunachal Pradesh, east Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. 

Further north Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Uttrakhand are expected to have rain and thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall is likely in south Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Vidarbha, and Marathwada.
