Winter Dryness: Experiencing dryness and itchiness is a winter woe for many people. With the lack of humidity in the air, and cold temperatures around us, skin’s natural moisture often takes a toll. To share some insights on the same Dr. Kashish Kalra talked with the team of Only My Health and gave us some solutions and causes of the winter dryness.
The loss of water from the layers of skin due to the lack of humidity and cold atmosphere refers to transepidermal water loss, or what we generally feel as winter dryness and itching. The causes of TEWL are many, including cold, harsh weather, exposure to heaters and warmers, and not drinking enough water. Skipping moisturizers can also cause this water loss.
Dr. Kalra shares simple and doable solutions to maintain skin moisture. Drinking plenty of water, and maintaining a balanced diet are foremost for having nourished skin. Additionally, moisturizer must be applied on damp skin for longer hours of hydration, and the use of a humidifier in homes can also bring a major shift.
Winter dryness is caused by environmental reasons, but can be reprimanded with a good diet and some hydration measures.
