Winter Wardrobe Care:  Winter wear varies from the natural wear of summer like cotton and silk. Heavier and warmer, winter clothes are more delicate to handle, and harsh wear and tear can damage their quality. Keeping them fresh, and looking new becomes a mammoth task sometimes but with the right knowledge, you can sail through the winter without harming your wool and coats. 

Washing tips for winter wear 

Follow tag instructions: Most winter wear comes with instructions on cleaning and washing with a tag on them. Pay attention to the kind of washing they require as given on the tag to not mess with their fabric by ill-handling them in a wash. 

Hand wash with mild detergents: Most woollen clothes are meant to be hand washed, as the fabric can get loose with machine washing, affecting its fit. When washing your woollen wear, opt for delicate cleansers and a gentle method. If machine washing, keep the setting on woollen wash with mild cleansers. 

Do not wring: Avoid wringing winter clothes, as this can stretch or shink the woolly fabric and cause them to lose their original fit.

Dry on a flat surface: Woollen clothes should not be hang-dried, as this can damage the fabric. Ideally, winter wear should be dried in the sun or at room temperature on a flat surface. 

Spot clean: While winter may make you lethargic, you need to be quick with stains on your winter clothes. Stains on woollen clothes are difficult to remove once they sit on them for a long time. Give your stained winter clothes a spot stain treatment with a gentle cleanser and then wash them later.    

Fluffing: Always fluff your winter clothes. Putting a tennis ball in the dryer while the machine is drying the clothes can help keep them the same as new. 

Storing tips for winter wear 

To keep your winter clothes in the right shape, and fit it is important to store them mindfully. 

Use broad shoulder hangers for coats and jackets to keep them in the right shape. 

The knitwears are best kept folded as it does not stretch the fabric of the clothes.

Lint rollers come in handy in winter to remove unwanted lint from clothes, along with soft fabric brushes that help brush off dirt.
