World Oral Health Day: Common dental problems that you need to be aware of

A lot of individuals suffer from oral diseases, which have serious health and economic repercussions and reduce people’s quality of life. However, numerous studies have shown that a large number of people do not routinely attend a dental office and are unaware of having oral health issues!

In the majority of cases, oral hygiene problems are caused by poor diet, fast food, cold drinks, and lack of it. Before 60, about 99% of adults experience tooth problems. It is important to realize that if we take good care of our teeth and visit our dentist on a regular basis, we may prevent all dental issues and ensure that they are treated in a timely manner.

Read below to know some of the common oral problems prevailing in individuals.

Bad Breath

Halitosis, another name for foul breath, is a condition that may be quite embarrassing and has a variety of causes. Gum and tongue problems can also contribute to poor breath. Halitosis is frequently caused by poor dental hygiene, including forgetting to brush or floss. In order to prevent this, we must make sure to brush at least twice a day, in the morning and at night before bed. A dentist should be seen if the issue still exists.

Discoloration of Teeth

Teeth can become discolored for a variety of reasons, including cold beverages, tea, coffee, fast food, and a lack of brushing. To prevent stained teeth, we must wash our teeth thoroughly and visit the dentist for teeth polishing at least once every two years.

Gum Disease

A minor form of gum disease called gingivitis develops when plaque accumulates in the spaces between and around teeth, infecting the gums and resulting in pain and swelling. It can become periodontitis if neglected, which can result in receding and bleeding gums, difficult eating, and tooth loss. Poor food, obesity, tobacco use, bad dental hygiene, using certain drugs, stress, and ageing are all risk factors for gum disease.

Tooth Decay

Tooth decay commonly occurs after a meal when food is left on the surface of the teeth. If we do not brush properly, these elements build and eventually create plaque and tartar. As tartar comes into contact with sugar, it produces acid, which eats away at the enamel of the teeth, causing decay. Brushing twice a day is the most popular approach, but if tartar has formed, you should see your dentist for a teeth cleaning or polishing.

Oral Cancer

This is by far the most deadly dental condition, and it can kill a patient a year after it occurs. The two main causes of oral cancer are chewing tobacco and cigarette smoking. To prevent this, we need to make sure we don’t consume any of the aforementioned items, and it’s important to visit the dentist regularly to ensure prompt diagnosis and treatment of mouth cancer.
