Cyclone Tauktae: Mumbai में Heavy Rain, जनजीवन हुआ प्रभावित

Cyclone Tauktae has caused a catastrophe in Mumbai on 17 May. With a speed of around 60-75 km per hour, several trees were broken and some houses were damaged in the strong thunderstorm. Mumbai Road Traffic was interrupted but no casualties were reported.

 In view of Tauktae terror, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has also been closed. The routes of the flights have been diverted which are coming to Mumbai from all over the country at the airport since morning.

In the early morning of 17 May, rains started with heavy winds in Mumbai. Roads are submerging in the sea around the 'Gateway of India Mumbai'. The Meteorological Department has issued Orange Alert for Mumbai. A very severe storm is expected to pass from the coast of Mumbai towards Gujarat. Because of this, three NDRF teams have been deployed in the western suburbs of the city.

The District Magistrate of Palghar said that citizens who have rough houses should go to pucca house or Zilla Parishad school. There is a high alert in the district. Significantly, the cyclone that hit the Arabian Sea, on Sunday wreaked havoc in the coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka and Goa. Hundreds of houses were destroyed by rain and strong winds. Thousands of people had to take shelter in safe places. At least six people died in storm-related accidents.

The Coastguard, Navy and Air Force along with 101 teams of NDRF are ready to deal with the situation. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with chief ministers of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and administrators of Daman and Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli to discuss the preparedness of the rescue. He instructed them to make special arrangements for the safety of the Covid hospitals and oxygen plant during the storm and to keep an adequate stock of oxygen. At the same time, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba also reviewed the preparations after meeting the National Crisis Management Committee.

Due to heavy rains in Kerala, there has been a danger of increasing the water level in many dams of the state. The state administration has been alerted to the potential danger. One person lost his life in Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Shimoga in Karnataka. More than 70 villages in seven districts have been affected by the storm.

In many places houses, trees and electric poles have collapsed. In Goa, strong winds started coming in from Sunday morning. Due to rain and storm, electric poles and trees fell in many places, power supply came to a standstill in many areas. In Gujarat, 1.5 lakh people living in the lower coastal areas have been evacuated to safer places. Winds may increase further by Tuesday morning.
