Since the movie got released in theatres, it received a lot of criticism on social media for its visual effects, narrative, design, and director. The dialogue in the movie has, however, received particularly harsh criticism from online users. Audience was not able to receive the foul language used to depict Lord Hanuman’s anger. Twitter was flooded with backlashes, memes and the #boycottAdipurush trends. People have given examples of how Lord Hanuman is portrayed as both mighty and wise in the Ramanand Sagar series, the Japanese anime film “The Legend of Ramayana”, as well as in his various iterations in the animated Hanuman films and the Disney+ Hotstar series.
Amongst the criticism the film received, the Om Raut-directed film had a strong opening weekend worldwide box office haul of Rs 340 crore. On June 16, the movie starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon was released, and reviews were largely negative. The film’s box office performance was, however, was not impacted with any backlash. Despite criticism for its dialogue and overly done VFX, Adipurush is still doing well at the box office. The movie made an estimated Rs 64 Cr on Sunday across all languages, bringing its overall take to almost Rs 216 Cr alone in India. The movie had a spectacular opening weekend, earning Rs 140 Cr globally. On Saturday, it added another Rs 100 Cr approx, taking its global box office total beyond Rs 200 Cr. The movie is also performing well globally, not only in the Hindi-speaking region.
The movies stars Prabhas as Raghava, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, Sunny Singh as Laxamn and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh. On Sunday, the production company T-Series and dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir made an announcement that certain dialogues that were unpopular with the audience would be changed. The movie is the modern adaptation of Ramayana and drew criticism for its subpar visual effects and contentious dialogue, such as “marega bete”, “bua ka bagicha hain kya”, and “jalegi tere baap ki”. Manoj Muntashir, Om Raut, and the team’s producers opted to change some dialogue after learning that the public had issues with the use of informal phrases in the movie.
