Cinema Lovers Day on 31 May; Watch The Latest Theater Releases At Just Rs 99 This Friday

Movies at 99: Thanks to the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) cinema lovers can watch the latest upcoming movies this Friday i.e. 31 May at just INR 99. The initiative aims to improve theater occupancy and footfall in movie cinemas. Watch any movie for less than a hundred bucks this Cinema Lovers Day.

In an attempt to encourage people to go to movie theaters after the dull spell of cinema-goers in the first quarter of the industry, the association is aiming to get a rise in the number of theater occupancy and footfalls with the high discounted rate of just Rs 99 for any movie at any show time. Applied to screens across the nation, the initiative also included major cinema chains like PVR, IONX, and Cinepolis.       

The first quarter of the cinema industry experienced a fall in theater occupancy due to several reasons. The audience’s disinterest in the movies released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and more released in quarter one accompanied by the ongoing Lok Sabha Election in the country further plunged the numbers of cinema goes, besides the limited Hollywood titles. 

The second quarter however seems hopeful for the cinema industry with big releases like Kalki 2898 AD and Chandu Champion in the pipeline for theatrical release in June.  

With the onset of summer vacations and the price drop, the association is expecting to witness cinema-goers in larger numbers.

Kamal Gianchandani, head of Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and CEO of PVR Inox Pictures in his statement said, “There are still a large number of families that find going to theaters inaccessible due to high ticket prices. Due to such initiatives, movies become accessible to large families. Also, this is the peak summer season with kids on vacation, who look for outdoor activities but which can be in an air-conditioned environment (because of the hot weather conditions). We expect students to benefit from this offer and expect them to come in big numbers. We expect occupancy to go up to 70-80 percent with youth dominating footfalls at 50 percent and families at 25-30 percent” 

How to book a ticket at Rs 99?

It is noteworthy that the offer excludes premium formats of recliners and IMAX. 

To book your ticket you can use any online medium like BookMyShow and PayTM to choose your preferred show time book the ticket and pay the price. However, the price is exclusive of convenience fees and GST, typically an addition to online booking. You can avoid the additional charges by getting a ticket at the ticket counter.

The day is celebrated to commemorate the re-opening of theaters post the 2-years shutdown during COVID-19. In 2022, the initiative was a success with sales skyrocketing past 6.5 million with movies like Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, Chup, Avatar, Dhokha: Round D Corner, and Boyz 3 available at Rs 99.
