Bakrid 2024 Wishes: Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, is one of Islam's most important holidays. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail as a form of obedience to God. This event is a powerful story of faith, devotion, and submission to divine will, with profound spiritual significance for Muslims around the world. Eid-ul-Adha is observed on the tenth of the 12th month of Dhu al-Hajja, according to the Islamic calendar. This year, Bakra Eid will be celebrated over two days, June 17 and 18. If the month of Zul-Hijjah is 29 days in 2024, Bakrid will fall on June 16th and if the month of Zul-Hijjah is 30 days in 2024, Bakrid will fall on June 17th.
According to tradition, Allah instructed Ibrahim through his dreams to sacrifice his beloved son Ismail as a test of his faith and obedience to God's will. Despite his deep love for his son, Abraham was willing to follow the command. However, just as he was about to sacrifice his son, Allah intervened, pleased with his devotion and willingness to obey, and provided a goat (ram) for sacrifice instead. This act of pure devotion, as well as Ibrahim’s determination to obey any and all commands, led to Bakrid celebrations.
Eid al-Adha is observed on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It coincides with the end of the Hajj pilgrimage, which every Muslim is required to make at least once in their lifetime, assuming they have the means to do so. The Hajj and Eid al-Adha symbolize the Muslim Ummah’s unity, equality, and devotion.
Eid al-Adha’s central ritual is the Qurbani, or animal sacrifice, which is typically a goat, sheep, cow, or camel. This act recognizes Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son and reminds Muslims of the value of selflessness, charity, and gratitude. The meat from the sacrifice is distributed to family, friends, and the poor, ensuring that the festival's joy is shared with those less fortunate.
Eid al-Adha is celebrated with family gatherings, communal prayers, and festive meals. Muslims put on new clothes and attend the special Eid prayer at their local mosques. This prayer is typically followed by a sermon on the themes of sacrifice, faith, and devotion. The communal nature of the prayer and subsequent celebrations fosters a sense of belonging and solidarity among Muslims. Many countries declare it a public holiday, with people taking time off from work and school to celebrate. People shop for new clothes, gifts, and animals to sacrifice. The streets and homes are illuminated with lights and decorations, creating a festive atmosphere.
Celebrate Eid-al-Adha and send these wishes to your family, relatives, and friends to enjoy a peaceful Bakrid.
