Franchise Films That Ruled The Box Office in 2024: Stree 2 to Singham Again

Sequel Films of 2024: This year has been a success for many Bollywood films from big-budgeted sci-fi thrillers like ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ to small budget with big impact stories like ‘Laapataa Ladies’. While many original plots also suffered dents at the box office, the frenzy of the film franchise proved to be a success for them. Let’s take a look at the franchise films that were released this year, and ruled the box office like no other.  

Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank

Helmed by Amar Kaushik, with Dinesh Vijen’s Maddock Films to back it, Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank featured Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee. 

The film broke several box office records and topped as the highest-grossing Hindi film ever with a staggering box office collection of Rs. 505 crore gross. The film defeated the record held by Shahrukh Khan’s Jawan and is the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2024. 

The film is a sequel to a 2018 horror-comedy film set in the town of Chanderi where a headless monster is wreaking havoc by kidnapping young women.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 

The third installment of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa film series is directed by Anees Bazmee starring Kartik Aaryan reclaiming his role as Rooh Baba, joining him are Triptii Dimri, Vidya Bala,n and Madhuri Dixit. The film was one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year, with the audience response being favorable. 

The film has amassed a worldwide box office collection of Rs 408.52 as of 25 days after its release, with a continued successful run at the cinema halls right now. 

Singham Again 

Rohit Shetty’s cop universe has earned multi-fold earnings at the box office with the fourth installment being Singham Again bridging back Ajay Devgn in his role as Bajirao Singham, Kareena Kapoor as Avni, and the newest lethal villain of Bollywood Arjun Kapoor. 

Singham Again boasts of Rs. 267.65 crore collection at the box office with the Cop Universe box office standing at a total of 943.92 crore with five films. 

The upcoming year has been labeled as the ‘year of sequels’ with several big sequels slated to release in cinema in 2025. December 2024 itself has some of the most anticipated sequels in store from Pushpa 2 to Dhadak 2.
