Who is Gourav Vallabh?

Prof. Gourav Vallabh is a professor of Finance at the XLRI (Xavier Labour Relations Institute), Jamshedpur. He is an academician, a media panelist, a Financial Analyst, and the former spokesperson of the Indian National Congress who recently resigned from his post to become a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Elaborating his grounds for resignation in his resignation letter Vallabh highlighted the ‘directionless way’ and inability to play a ‘strong opposition’.

Gourav Vallabh Family 

Coming from an academically rich and strong background of respected academician parents, Vallabh was born in 1997 in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Following the likes of his mother and father, Vallabh excelled in academics with a Bachelor of Commerce from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University in Ajmer.

He is married to a fellow assistant professor, Priyanka Vallabh, and has a daughter with her named Aanya Vallabh.

Gourav Vallabh Educational Qualifications 

After pursuing his graduation in Finance, he became a gold medallist in Master of Commerce also from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University in Ajmer. In 2004, he earned the title of CA with a successful degree in Chartered Accounting from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Additionally, he pursued a Doctorate in Financial Statement Analysis for Credit Decisions from the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur. Apart from being a certified LLB, he is also a Certified Financial Risk Manager from GARP, USA.  

Gourav Vallabh Political Timeline

He became a member of Congress in 2017 shouldering the responsibility as the party’s spokesperson. In 2019 he contested in elections from Jamshedpur East constituency as a Congress candidate but lost. He resigned from Congress to join BJP in 2024. 

Vallabh rose to fame for his strong oration that bettered BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra when he cut him off abruptly during his enthusiastic talk about the promised ‘Five Trillion Economy’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ask a simple ‘how many questions are in a trillion?’ that left the Patra dumbfounded.
