Hajj 2025: Authorities in Saudi Arabia have stopped about 2,70,000 Muslim pilgrims from entering Mecca as lakhs of people gathered in the state to take part in the yearly Hajj pilgrimage. 

The official statement by the authorities has revealed that the decision has been taken as an effort to reduce overcrowding and mitigate safety risks. 

The action is also a crackdown on unauthorised access to the pilgrimage, which has also been identified as the main reason for the heat-related fatalities at Mecca last year.
