Holi 2025: The festival of Holi holds immense significance for a newly wed couple. For most, it is the first festival they celebrate together, building their relationship strong in the fun and frolic ambience of love, colors, and sweet delicacies.   

This year, the festival of playing with color will be observed on 14 March 202,5, meaning the Holika Dahan will take place on 13 March. However, the rules of Holi and Holika Dahan are very strict for the newly married pair. They need to be aware of negative energies and stay away from evil eyes.

Do’s and Don’ts on First Holi 

First Holi At Girl’s Maternal House 

The newly wedded couple is advised not to celebrate their first holi in the bride’s sasural (in-laws’ house). Traditions suggest that the first Holi of the couple should be celebrated in the maternal house of the bride, i.e., her maiyka. 

Celebrating their first holi at the sasural is believed to bring strains in the relationship of the husband and wife. It is auspicious to celebrate the first holi at the mayika of the bride. 

Don’t watch Holika Dahan 

Newly wed couples should not watch the lit holika dahan. They can pray and perform circumambulation around the Holika before it is lit. Neither should the bride and her mother-in-law watch the Holika dahan together, as it is believed to spoil their ties in the future. 

Husband and wife can also face adverse effects from watching the holika dahan together, bringing troubles to their peaceful married life. 

Don’t wear black or white 

A new bride should not wear black or white colors on her first Holi and Holika Dahan. Black is considered inauspicious in the Hindu religion as it attracts negativity and evil energies. 

Do not lend your wedding accessories 

New brides should neither donate nor lend any of her wedding accessories, or any suhag objects to anyone during Holi as the tantra mantra rituals are believed to be on their peak around this time.
