Holi 2025: Eye Care And First Aid Tips For A Safe & Joyful Celebration

Holi 2025: Playing with colors is a major part of the Holi celebration. From sneakily throwing colorful water on your friends to rubbing gulal on their cheeks, the Holi celebration is a way of sharing joy with your loved ones. But the consequences of colors are well-known, which is why everyone takes good care of their skin, face, and hair during the festival. And one major sensitive organ of the body, the eyes, get often neglected, leading to unwanted or accidental exposure to color, which then results in red eye, inflammation, irritation, and more.

A little vigilance and some cautionary tips can go a long way in preventing the negative exposure of color to the eyes. So protect your vision wisely this Holi by following these simple eye-care and first-aid tips.

How to protect your eyes from the color on Holi?

With a mindful celebration of Holi and a few preventive measures in check, you can have a safe and joyful Holi celebration.

Use herbal/organic color: Regular colors tend to have toxic chemicals in them that can irritate your eyes as well. Using herbal or organic color reduces the chance of any major damage to the eye.

Use petroleum jelly around your eye: The skin around the eyes is extremely sensitive; hence, you cannot rub it to remove the colors. Hence, to be prepared in the future, apply a thick layer of petroleum jelly around the eye so no dry color blows into the eye, and in the removal process, you would not have to rub the area aggressively.

Wear sunglasses: Sunglasses will protect you not only from the sun but also from any accidental blow of color over the eyes.

Skip the contact lenses if possible: Instead of lenses, opt for your prescription glasses on Holi to avoid trapping any color particle in your eyes.

How to handle color exposure to eyes?

If your eyes are exposed to color accidentally, do not panic and try to follow these first-aid measures.

Do not rub: If anything goes into our eyes, our first instinct is to rub it away. Refrain from rubbing the eyes with colors in it as it will further irritate the eyes.

Splash cold and clean water: Use cold and clean water to splash it in your eyes. It will rinse off the color exposed to the eyes.

Use eye drops: After rinsing, you can use artificial tears or eye drops to hydrate your skin after the loss of moisture.

Seek medical help: If the condition does not improve, it is advised to ask for medical help rather than trying any home made remedies.
