The Human Liver is the crucial and the second largest organ in the body after skin. Situated in the right side, upper abdominal area, the liver gets the blood flow from Stomach and later processes blood and breaks down, balances, and creates the nutrients and also metabolizes drugs into forms that are easier to use for the rest of the body or that are nontoxic.
It is present in every single vertebrate i.e. animals with a backbone, or spinal cord. Liver influences metabolism of the body and helps in burning fat and maintaining body weight. It also detoxifies and purifies the bloodstream.
It's the Largest glandular organ and the second largest organ besides our skin.
It is Multifunctional and simultaneously performs over 200 important functions for the body including supplying glucose to the brain, combating infections, and storing nutrients.
Around 10%of the liver is made up of Fat. So if fat content goes above 10 “fatty liver” then it makes you more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.
Liver also stores important vitamins and nutrients from the food we eat and stocks them including iron so that the body can use it later.
Liver also works as a detoxifier and eliminates harmful things we take in like alcohol and drugs. Without the liver our body cannot cannot process these things.
The Liver also creates blood. Even before our birth the liver started producing blood.
And most importantly it is the only organ which can regenerate itself. I.e even if 90% of the Liver is donated, the rest 10% will regenerate and develop more cells to fill in for the removed section
Here are the simple practices through which you can maintain a healthy liver.
Maintain a healthy weight and avoid junk as it will keep you away from developing fatty liver or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Eat a balanced diet and take in more nutritions. Avoid high calorie-meals, saturated fat, refined carbohydrates (such as white bread, white rice and regular pasta) and sugars.
Keep your body hydrated. It also helps our Liver to intensify the detoxification process.
Exercise regularly to burn excess fat and keep your body healthy.
Stay away from smoking, alcohol and all sought additives and drugs. As they directly impact the liver and cause several diseases including cancer.
Do not share personal hygiene care things like razors needles as they might get contaminated and even get exposed to your blood. Affecting the liver.
Practise safe sex as you might get contacted with STD’s like hepatitis B and hepatitis
Get vaccinated with hepatitis A and hepatitis B.
