Laapata Ladies Accused Of Plagiarism, Similarities With Short Film Burqa City Challenges Its Originality

Bollywood Update:  Kiran Rao’s directorial debut Laapata Ladies has been recently accused of plagiarism. The film is being called a copy of the Arabic film, Burqa City, released in 2019, and available to watch for free on YouTube. The sharp similarities between the plot and concept along with a few scenes the film has been bashed for not giving credit to its original “inspiration”.
However, the writer of Kiran Rao’s film broke his silence on the same, saying that he registered his story with the Screenwriters Association in 2014. In contrast, Burqa City was written in 2017. 

In light of the recent flop films of Bollywood, fans were disappointed that a film they believed to be original was also a copy. The statement of the film writer may now bring a shift in the beliefs.
