Look Back 2023: The Silver Screen Debut of YouTube and Instagram Icons like Shehnaaz Gill and Anubhav Singh Bassi This Year

YouTube to Bollywood: For years Bollywood remained a sacred, isolated place residing actors who started with this ambition of being an actor in the Hindi film industry. With the advent of content-creating platforms like YouTube and Instagram, the glamour of stardom is divided, and now we are witnessing an era where the shines and shimmers of the two worlds have collided to complement each other. Acting debuts of content creators like Anubhav Singh Bassi, Vishnu Kaushal, and others is an ode to this culmination of two worlds.

Shehnaaz Gill 

Shehnaaz Gill first came to the limelight with the reality show Bigg Boss 13. The show brought her to fame as ‘Punjab ki Katrina.’

Shehnaaz made her silver screen debut this year in Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan as Sukoon. She was later seen in Rhea Kapoor & Ekta Kapoor’s production, Thank You For Coming. 

Anubhav Singh Bassi    

Popularly known as Bassi, is a YouTuber, stand-up comedian turned actor. The creator boasts over 4 million subscribers on his YouTube. He did his first Bollywood film as Ranbir Kapoor’s childhood pal Manu Dabbas in Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhooti Main Makkar in March 2023.

Comedy, his strongest suit stood outstanding in the romantic comedy.  

Vishnu Kaushal 

Vishnu Kaushal is a Chandigarh-based content creator who recently made his debut alongside Shahrukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. He played the role of Gulab, a fellow illegal migrant in the movie. The social media creator took to his Instagram to express his glee and gratitude for the opportunity. 

Bhuvan Bam 

BB Ki Vines hero, Bhuvan Bam made his OTT debut on Disney+ Plus with Taaza Khabar- an action, fantasy comedy directed by Himank Gaur. He enacted the character of Vasant Gawde in the series.    

Yuvraj Menda

The TikToker, social media influencer, dancer, and actor is now also an actor after appearing as Dilton Doiley in Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies. He is seen in many dancing videos alongside Tanisha Mirwani in their social media posts. 

The year proved to be a stepping stone into the world of glitters and glamour for these content creators. Their hard work, grit, and years of content creation were recognized with these big Bollywood breaks.
