Mamata Banerjee Cabinet: A big change in Mamata's cabinet, Babul Supriyo made minister

03 Aug, 2022

West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee has made changes in her cabinet. A total of 10 new ministers have got a place. In this, Babul Supriyo has also been made a minister. The Mamta government has done this cabinet reshuffle at a time when TMC is surrounded by party minister Partha Chatterjee.

9 ministers who took oath

The nine ministers who took oath in Kolkata include Snehasis Chakraborty, Partha Bhowmik, Udayan Guha, Pradeep Majumdar, Tajmul Hussain, Satyajit Burman, Birbaha Hansda and Biplab Roy Chowdhury. Earlier, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had said about the cabinet reshuffle – Yes, there will be a reshuffle. We lost ministers Subrata Mukherjee, Sadhan Pandey. Parth is in jail so all his work has to be done. It is not possible for me to handle alone. We will reshuffle the cabinet on Wednesday. There will be 4-5 new faces in the cabinet.

Biggest reshuffle since TMC came to power in 2011

It is worth noting that the appointment of Babul Supriyo as a minister in the changes in the West Bengal cabinet is shocking. Babul Supriya left the BJP and joined TMC in September 2021. In April 2022, he became an MLA from Ballygunge seat by winning the assembly by-election. Earlier he had resigned from his Lok Sabha seat Asansol. After this he left the BJP and joined TMC. At the same time, this is the biggest reshuffle since the TMC came to power in 2011.

Mamata Banerjee's government has made changes in the cabinet at a time when ED's action against Partha Chatterjee, a former TMC minister, is continuing. Partha Chatterjee's name had surfaced in the teacher recruitment scam related to West Bengal. He was arrested after his house was raided, putting the government on the backfoot. Taking action on this, the Mamta government removed Partha Chatterjee from the post of minister and all the posts of TMC.
