Pahalgam Terror Attack: Will BSF Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw Lose His Job After Accidentally Crossing Border?

Pahalgam Terror Attack: On the day following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, BSF Jawan Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw crossed the border by mistake. On May 14, he returned to India after a 20-day stay in Pakistan. Pakistani Rangers handed him over to BSF at the Attari-Wagah border. Purnam Shaw’s return has prompted speculation that he may lose his position.

According to the BSF Act, there is no immediate threat to Purnam Kumar Shaw's job because he crossed the boundary by accident, which is normally not grounds for dismissal.  However, there is a process for such a circumstance, which requires specific investigative steps to be followed.
