Pakistan to block SIM cards of 5 lakh tax defaulters

World News:  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government has decided to block the SIM cards of over five lakh users for failing to comply with the country’s tax law and file the taxes for the year 2023. The action comes amidst the economic turmoil the country is going through. 

Over 500,000 SIM cards to be blocked

The government has ordered all the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other telecom companies to block the SIM cards of all tax evaders of 2023. Those who have complied with the tax filing norms will be unblocked automatically, said the officials. The list of active taxpayers would be updated every Monday and Tuesday.
