On September 13, 1959, Rajeev Shukla was born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He received his education at Christ Church College and Pandit Prithi Nath College in Kanpur. After that, he attended Vikramajit Singh Sanatan Dharma College in Kanpur to study law.
Prior to going into politics, he worked as a reporter for the Hindi daily Jansatta and was friends with Deepa Saxena, with whom he shared the stage. Shukla remained in this position until 1985, when he joined Ravivar Magazine as a special correspondent. He was employed as a senior editor and remained there till 2000, when he was elected to the Rajya Sabha. He is currently a member of the Indian National Congress.
