Ranvir Shorey Biography: Bigg Boss OTT is back with the third season of the reality show, exclusively on JioCinemas. The grand premiere of the show took place on Friday 21st June, with the new host Anil Kapoor introducing this season’s participants, making his reality show debut. Anil Kapoor will be shouldering the hosting responsibilities instead of Salman Khan, a name synonymous with Bigg Boss. The grand premiere witnessed the introduction of 13 contestants, from social media sensations to sports personalities, journalists, actors, and singers. This season’s lineup is filled with drama and lots of entertainment for viewers, as famous names including Vada Pav Girl Chandrika Dixit, rapper Naezy, senior journalist Deepak Chaurasia, influencer Vishal Pandey, among others, will be sharing tasks and other duties under one roof of the BB house.
Although all of them have a huge fanbase, one well-known name amongst them is Bollywood actor and former VJ Ranvir Shorey. Many of us only know Shorey as the ex-husband of actress and director Konkona Sen Sharma. Let us delve into his life, career, education, personal life, and more.
Ranvir Shorey was born on August 18, 1972, in Jalandhar, Punjab. He received his early education at Dayanand Model Sr. Secondary School in Jalandhar. He is close friends with Rajat Kapoor, an actor and director, and actor Vinay Pathak.
Shorey began his career alongside his friend and co-actor, Vinay Pathak. He hosted the successful talk shows ‘Ranvir Vinay Aur Kaun?’ and ‘The Great Indian Comedy Show’ on STAR One. He made his acting debut opposite Manisha Koirala in the 2002 film ‘Ek Chhotisi Love Story’. He then played a minor role in the blockbuster hit film ‘Jism’ (2003).
It wasn’t until 2006 that he gained attention in the comedy film ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’. The film received critical acclaim, and his performance was praised. He then played the role of “Nanoo” in the rom-com ‘Pyaar Ke Side Effects’, alongside Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat. He appeared in the multi-starrer ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.’ in 2007. After a long career in the film industry, he finally got a chance to appear in Yash Raj Films’ musical drama ‘Aaja Nachle’ in 2007, alongside Madhuri Dixit, Konkona Sen Sharma, Akshay Khanna, Kunal Kapoor, and Irrfan Khan. In 2008, he landed a lead role in the thriller comedy ‘Mithya’, opposite Neha Dhupia. In the same year, he appeared in films such as ‘Ugly Aur Pagli’ and the blockbuster hit romantic comedy ‘Singh Is Kinng’.
Ranvir Shorey also hosted the seventh season of ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ in 2014. He appeared in the short film ‘Shame’ (2018) with Swara Bhaskar, as well as in ‘Sonchiriya’ (2019) with the late Sushant Singh Rajput, Ashutosh Rana, and Manoj Bajpayee. In the same year, he also starred in the comedy thriller ‘Kadakh’, alongside Kalki Koechlin, Rajat Kapoor, and Tara Sharma. He also had notable roles in ‘Angrezi Medium’, ‘420 IPC’, ‘Mumbaikar’, and ‘Tiger 3’.
Ranvir Shorey used to date Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter, actress Pooja Bhatt, but married his longtime girlfriend, actress Konkona Sen Sharma in 2010. The couple, who became engaged in 2008, reportedly exchanged wedding vows in a private ceremony at their Goregaon home. However, the couple separated after five years of marriage. They both have a son named Haroon, whom the couple welcomed in 2011.
