Sambal Violence Update: Lawyers in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal protested against the police for arresting Shahi Jama Masjid Intezamia Committee chief advocate Zafar Ali. Along with this, the District Bar Association met at the Chandausi court auditorium and resolved to file an application for Zafar Ali’s bail before going on strike. In addition, a protest was held on the streets, accusing the police of including the advocate in a plot and putting him in jail.
In protest of Zafar Ali’s detention, advocates in Sambhal launched a strike on Monday, and after meeting in the civil court premises, the advocates marched to the tehsil, chanting slogans against the police administration and abstaining from judicial work. Advocate Zafar Ali, the head of the Jama Masjid Intezamia Committee, who was arrested and imprisoned under criminal charges, is suspected of having a crucial role in inciting the riots. An FIR was filed against him under a number of sections, including Sections 230 and 231 of the Indian Penal Code, which provide for a minimum sentence of ten years and a maximum of life imprisonment.
